Back End
Joomla's Back-End has a million more functions to learn then the Front-End. Now there are three roles of a Back-End Manager, Administrator and Super Administrator. See the "Back-end Matrix Chart" for a top down view of areas and roles availability to used the areas to control Joomla.
I'm only going to go over there very common and general functions of the Joomla Back-End.
Control Panel This is Joomla's Back-end landing page. It's center stage to get to Joomla managers to configure your site.

Menubar This the main menu to get around the back-end.

Extension Manager How you install and delete Joomla's extensions this is a universal extension manager. Where the yellow arrow is the Sub menu were the extension manager lets you manage Joomla's components,modules etc. There is also a filter that comes up. This Filter will sometimes give the choice of Site or Admin. Site are Front-End extension and Administrator are Back-end extensions.

Toolbar These icons do many functions and per manager have different functions. What they all do is let you do mast edits by checking off all the items that like do the same action to then clicking the icon with the function.

Submenu Links Submenu are links that lead to sub sections of managers.

Filters The filters work like a search feature also has a pull down menu filter to manage content.

Parameters Parameters are all over the place in Joomla they add extra control over that Item.

The Grid The Grid of items in the managers the Paging buttons lets you go thru the page sets. Also has a filter to show more or less items in the grid output.

Ajax Edit The Ajax edit is for the module positions via the Module Manager then inside the Module. Position Parameter you can click inside type in a new name and save the setting. The Module will now show via the new position name.
